My experience online began way before the internet craze of today. Back in the late 70's and early 80's I was signing on to Compuserve & other online BBS's using a 300 baud modem on my Commodore 64. Everything was text based, there were no graphics like everything is today. AOL was not going to be around for nearly another decade, and a web browser had not even be thought of yet.
My first internet account came shortly after my first Macintosh computer. I had a dial-up account with a local ISP. Then a couple years later ISDN became the faster way to connect. These days I have a dedicated DSL business class line, with a small bank of public IP addresses. I do web hosting right from my house, in fact this site is served up from a computer sitting only a few feet away from me as I type this.
